Accuretic (quinapril hydrochloride and hydrochlorothiazide) is indicated to lower high blood pressure. Quinapril hydrochloride, an ACE inhibitor, relaxes blood vessels to reduce blood pressure. Hydrochlorothiazide, a diuretic or water pill, increases urination to help lower blood pressure. While Accuretic does not cure high blood pressure, it effectively controls it when taken regularly, even if you feel fine.
Ingredients: The active ingredients in Accuretic are quinapril hydrochloride and hydrochlorothiazide. The inactive ingredients include magnesium carbonate, magnesium stearate, crospovidone, gelatin, and titanium dioxide.
Directions: Follow your doctor’s prescription exactly. Accuretic is not for starting treatment. Your doctor will first adjust your dose using the individual medicines, quinapril hydrochloride and hydrochlorothiazide. Once your dose matches the combination available in Accuretic, your doctor may prescribe it as a single daily tablet. Take Accuretic at the same time every day. You can take it with or without food. If it upsets your stomach, try taking it with food or milk. If you miss a dose, skip it and take your next dose at the usual time. Do not take two doses together to make up for a missed one. If you think you have taken too much Accuretic, contact your doctor or a poison control center right away, even if you feel fine.
Do not take Accuretic if you are allergic to quinapril hydrochloride, hydrochlorothiazide, or any of the non-medicinal ingredients in the formulation, or if you are allergic to sulfonamide-derived drugs (sulfa drugs). Avoid taking it if you have difficulty urinating, are pregnant or planning to become pregnant, or are breastfeeding, as Accuretic passes into breast milk. Do not use it if you are taking aliskiren-containing medicines, such as Rasilez, and have diabetes, kidney disease, high potassium levels, or congestive heart failure with hypotension. Avoid Accuretic if you are taking an angiotensin receptor blocker (ARB) or another ACE inhibitor and have diabetes with end organ damage, kidney disease, high potassium levels, or congestive heart failure with hypotension. Additionally, Accuretic should not be used if you have experienced an allergic reaction (angioedema) to any ACE inhibitor, have hereditary angioedema, or are taking Entresto (sacubitril/valsartan) due to the increased risk of angioedema.
Common side effects: Dizziness, fatigue, cough, and headache.
Serious side effects: Severe allergic reactions like swelling of the lips, face, or throat; signs of liver problems such as yellowing of the skin or eyes; or kidney issues like reduced urination. This list of signs is not complete; if you experience other symptoms, contact your doctor immediately.
Drug interactions: Arava (Leflunomide) | Atacand (Candesartan) | Multaq (Dronedarone) | Midamor (Amiloride)
Store Accuretic at room temperature, between 15°C and 30°C, in a dry place away from light and moisture.
