Vagifem Drug Class

Vagifem generic name is estradiol. It belongs to a group of medications called vaginal hormone or local estrogen replacement therapy. It contains the female hormone estradiol and is used to relieve the symptoms of menopause, such as vaginal dryness, irritation, burning or menopausal vasomotor symptoms, menopausal vulvar, and atrophic vaginitis.

During menopause, the ovaries produce less estrogen (female hormone), which results in an undesirable condition known as vaginal atrophy (dryness and shrinkage of vaginal tissues). When you use Vagifem tablets, you insert them into the vagina, and then it works locally by releasing estrogen, resulting in symptom relief.
