Clenpiq

Indications 

Clenpiq is a combination medication used for cleansing the colon as preparation for a colonoscopy in adults. 

Dosage and Administration  

• Mix Clenpiq powder as directed before use. 
• Ensure any fluid and electrolyte imbalances are corrected prior to taking Clenpiq. 
• Follow the instructions to mix Clenpiq powder with water to create the solution. 
• Take one bottle of Clenpiq as one dose. Two doses are required for a complete colonoscopy preparation. 
• Take the first dose in the evening before the colonoscopy and the second dose the next morning, before the colonoscopy. 
• Take the first dose in the afternoon or early evening before the colonoscopy and the second dose 6 hours later. 
• Drink additional fluids after each dose. 
• Consume only clear fluids from the start of Clenpiq treatment until after the colonoscopy. 
• Do not eat solid food or dairy products once you start taking Clenpiq. 
• Do not drink any liquids colored red or purple. 
• Do not consume alcohol. 
• Do not take any other laxatives while using Clenpiq. 
• Do not take any oral medications within one hour of starting Clenpiq. 
• Do not drink anything, including water, at least 2 hours before the colonoscopy. 

Mechanism of Action 

Clenpiq works by combining a stimulant laxative, Sodium Picosulfate, which increases bowel movements, with Magnesium Oxide and Anhydrous Citric Acid. These form Magnesium Citrate in the stomach, which draws water into the bowel, causing a laxative effect. 

Contraindications  

Do not use Clenpiq if you have: 

• Severely reduced kidney function (creatinine clearance less than 30 mL/minute). 
• Gastrointestinal (GI) obstruction or ileus. 
• Bowel perforation. 
• Toxic colitis or toxic megacolon. 
• Gastric retention. 
• An allergy to any of the ingredients in Clenpiq. 

Side Effects

• Diarrhea 

Serious Side Effects: 

• Severe dehydration 
• Electrolyte imbalances 
• Seizures
