Savaysa (edoxaban)

Indications

  • Atrial Fibrillation (AFib): Savaysa is used to reduce the risk of stroke and blood clots in patients with nonvalvular atrial fibrillation.
  • Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT) and Pulmonary Embolism (PE): It is also prescribed for the treatment of DVT and PE, and for the prevention of these conditions from recurring.

Dosage and Administration

  • Take Savaysa exactly as prescribed by your doctor.
  • Swallow the tablets whole with a full glass of water.
  • Take the medication at the same time each day to maintain consistent levels in your bloodstream.
  • Follow your doctor’s instructions on the dosage and schedule, typically taken once a day.
  • Inform your doctor of all medications, supplements, and herbal products you are currently taking.
  • Continue taking Savaysa even if you feel well, to prevent stroke and blood clots.
  • Do not crush, chew, or break the tablets, as this can affect the drug’s effectiveness.
  • Avoid skipping doses; take Savaysa consistently as prescribed to maintain its effectiveness.
  • Do not take more than the prescribed dose to prevent potential side effects or overdose.
  • Avoid consuming excessive alcohol while taking Savaysa, as it can increase the risk of bleeding.
  • Do not stop taking Savaysa without consulting your doctor, as stopping suddenly can increase the risk of blood clots or stroke.

Mechanism of Action

Savaysa is an anticoagulant that works by inhibiting Factor Xa, an important protein in the blood clotting process. By blocking this protein, Savaysa helps to prevent the formation of blood clots, reducing the risk of stroke and other clot-related issues in patients with atrial fibrillation, DVT, or PE.

Contraindications

  • Do not use it if you are allergic to edoxaban or any ingredients in Savaysa.
  • Avoid use if you have active pathological bleeding.
  • Not recommended for patients with severe kidney disease or artificial heart valves.
  • Consult your doctor if you have a history of liver disease, bleeding disorders, or if you are scheduled for surgery or dental procedures.
  • Inform your healthcare provider if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding.
