Indications

Celexa is indicated for the treatment of major depressive disorder (MDD) in adults. 

Dosage and Administration

• Initiate treatment with an initial dosage of 20 mg once daily. 
• Administer Celexa orally once daily, with or without food. 
• Increase the dosage to a maximum of 40 mg once daily after one week if deemed necessary by the healthcare provider. 
• Take a maximum dosage of 20 mg once daily for patients greater than 60 years of age, patients with hepatic impairment, and CYP2C19 poor metabolizers. 
•  Do not exceed the maximum recommended dosage without consulting a healthcare professional. 
• Do not abruptly discontinue Celexa, as it may lead to withdrawal symptoms. Gradual tapering may be necessary under medical supervision. 

Mechanism of Action

Celexa works by helping serotonin, a chemical in the brain, stay active for longer. This happens because it stops brain cells from taking back in serotonin too quickly. 

Contraindications
