Prescribing Information

Indications: Opzelura Cream (ruxolitinib) is indicated as a prescription cream used on the skin.

  • It is used for the short-term and non-continuous chronic treatment of mild to moderate eczema (atopic dermatitis). This applies to non-immunocompromised adults. It also applies to children 12 years of age and older. Opzelura Cream is prescribed when
    • the disease is not well controlled with topical prescription therapies or
    • when those therapies are not recommended.
  • Opzelura Cream is also used to treat a type of vitiligo called nonsegmental vitiligo in adults and children 12 years of age and older. It is not known if Opzelura is safe and effective in children under 12 years of age with atopic dermatitis or nonsegmental vitiligo. 

Ingredients: Opzelura Cream contains ruxolitinib phosphate as an active ingredient. The inactive ingredients include cetyl alcohol, dimethicone 350, and edetate disodium. It also contains glyceryl stearate SE, light mineral oil, and medium chain triglycerides. Other inactive ingredients are methylparaben, phenoxyethanol, and polyethylene glycol 200.  Additionally, it includes polysorbate 20, propylene glycol, propylparaben, and stearyl alcohol. The cream also contains purified water, white petrolatum, and xanthan gum. 

Directions: Follow your doctor’s prescription exactly.  

Use Opzelura cream only on your skin. Do not apply it in your eyes, mouth, or vagina. Apply a thin layer to the affected areas two times a day. Do not use more than one 60-gram tube each week or more than one 100-gram tube every two weeks. If you have questions about how to apply it, ask your healthcare provider. 

 If you are using Opzelura for atopic dermatitis, stop using it when your itching, rash, and redness go away, or as your doctor tells you. Tell your doctor if your symptoms do not get better within 8 weeks. 

 If you are using Opzelura for nonsegmental vitiligo, tell your doctor if your treated skin does not improve within 24 weeks. 

 Wash your hands after applying Opzelura, unless your hands are being treated. If someone else applies it for you, they should wash their hands after applying the cream. 

Common side effects: Side effects include:

  • common cold (nasopharyngitis)
  • hives and
  • diarrhea
  • inflamed hair pores (folliculitis)
  • bronchitis
  • swelling of the tonsils (tonsillitis)
  • ear infection
  • runny nose (rhinorrhea).

There can be an increase in a type of white blood cell called eosinophils. 

Serious side effects: These include low blood cell counts and increased cholesterol. You may face serious infections or an increased risk of death from any cause. Other serious risks are:

  • cancer
  • immune system problems
  • major cardiovascular events and
  • blood clots

 This list of signs is incomplete. In case you experience any other symptoms, call your doctor immediately. 

Before using Opzelura Cream, tell your healthcare provider if you have: 

  • an active infection 
  • a history of smoking 
  • had a heart attack, stroke, or other heart problems 
  • low white or red blood cell counts 
  • high cholesterol or high triglycerides 
  • plans to become pregnant or are already pregnant 
  • plans to breastfeed or are already doing so 

It is not known if Opzelura Cream can harm your unborn baby. If you use this medicine during pregnancy, you and your doctor should report it to the Pregnancy Exposure Registry at Incyte Corporation (1-855-463-3463). It is also not known if Opzelura Cream passes into breast milk. Do not breastfeed during treatment and for about 4 weeks after the last dose.
