It is placed in the upper third of the vagina, either by the patient or a healthcare provider. After 90 days, the ring should be removed and, if necessary, replaced to continue treatment. Ingredients: Estring contains estradiol as the active ingredient. Inactive ingredients include silicone polymers and barium sulfate, which are combined to form the ring. 

Directions: Follow your doctor’s prescription exactly.  

•  Estring is a local estrogen therapy that helps relieve itching, burning, and dryness in and around the vagina. It should be inserted into the upper third of the vagina, where it will release estradiol continuously for 90 days. You or your healthcare provider can insert or remove the ring.  
•  To insert it yourself, choose a comfortable position, such as standing with one leg up, squatting, or lying down. After washing and drying your hands, remove the ring from its pouch, holding it between your thumb and index finger, and gently press the sides of the ring together.  
•  Insert the compressed ring into your vagina as far as it will go. The exact position of the ring is not critical, but it should be placed in the upper third of the vagina. 
• Once in place, you should not feel the ring. If you feel discomfort, it may not be inserted far enough; use your finger to gently push it in further. The ring will remain in place for 90 days, releasing a low, steady dose of estradiol.  
•  If you experience any discomfort during intercourse, remove the ring beforehand and reinsert it afterward. The ring may slide down due to abdominal pressure or constipation, but you can gently reposition it with your finger. 
•  If the ring falls out, wash it with lukewarm water (not hot) and reinsert it. Estring will take 2 to 3 weeks to fully relieve vaginal and urinary symptoms, and you may notice an increase in vaginal secretions, which is normal.  
•  However, if these secretions are accompanied by a bad odor, itching, or discomfort, contact your healthcare provider. 
•  After 90 days, Estring will no longer release enough estradiol to remain effective. At that time, remove the ring and replace it with a new one if necessary. To remove the ring, wash and dry your hands, then gently pull it out using your finger.
