Qvar Redihaler (beclomethasone)

Indications

It is used to prevent asthma attacks and manage symptoms in adults and children requiring ongoing treatment.

Dosage and Administration

  • Follow your doctor’s prescribed dosage and inhalation technique strictly.
  • Prime the Redihaler if it’s new or hasn’t been used for more than 10 days.
  • Breathe out fully, then place the Redihaler mouthpiece between your lips and inhale deeply and forcefully.
  • Hold your breath for 10 seconds, then exhale slowly.
  • Rinse your mouth with water and spit it out after each use to prevent throat irritation.
  • Do not exhale into the Redihaler mouthpiece after inhaling the medication.
  • Avoid using the Redihaler if it appears damaged or if the medication has expired.
  • Do not share your Redihaler with others, even if they have similar symptoms.
  • Do not use for sudden asthma attacks; use a rescue inhaler (e.g., albuterol) for acute symptoms.

Mechanism of Action

Beclomethasone is a corticosteroid that reduces inflammation in the airways by inhibiting the release of inflammatory substances. It helps prevent asthma symptoms and asthma attacks by controlling inflammation in the lungs.

Contraindications

  • Do not use it if you are allergic to beclomethasone or any component of the Redihaler.
  • Avoid during acute asthma exacerbations; use short-acting bronchodilators instead.
  • Not suitable for patients with untreated fungal, bacterial, or viral infections of the respiratory tract.
  • Avoid in patients with tuberculosis or recent exposure to tuberculosis.

Precautions

  • Inform your doctor about any other medications you are taking to avoid interactions.
  • Disclose your complete medical history, especially of infections, osteoporosis, and adrenal gland problems.
  • Use with caution in patients with liver disease or diabetes.
  • Monitor bone density if using long-term, as corticosteroids may increase the risk of osteoporosis.
  • Avoid exposure to chickenpox or measles if not immune, as corticosteroids can worsen these infections.
