Indications

  • Ocular Surgery Aids in managing inflammation and discomfort following other types of eye surgery as directed by a healthcare provider.

Dosage and Administration

  • Follow your doctor’s prescribed dosage and schedule strictly.
  • Apply the solution as instructed, typically one drop in the affected eye(s) once daily.
  • Wash your hands before and after applying the drops.
  • Tilt your head back, pull down your lower eyelid to create a small pocket, and instill one drop.
  • Close your eye and press your finger to the inside corner of your eye for about 1 minute to prevent the liquid from draining into your tear duct.
  • Do not touch the dropper tip or let it come into contact with your eye or any other surface to avoid contamination.
  • Do not use the solution if it changes color or becomes cloudy.
  • Do not share your medication with others, even if they have similar symptoms.
  • Do not wear contact lenses while using this medication unless advised by your doctor.

Mechanism of Action

Bromfenac is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) that works by inhibiting the enzymes (cyclooxygenase-1 and -2) responsible for the synthesis of prostaglandins. Prostaglandins are chemicals in the body that cause inflammation and pain. By reducing their production, Prolensa helps decrease inflammation and pain following eye surgery.

Contraindications

  • Do not use it if you have a known allergy to bromfenac or any other component of the solution.
  • Avoid if you have a history of asthma or allergic reactions triggered by NSAIDs.
  • Not suitable for individuals with known hypersensitivity to other NSAIDs.
  • Do not use it if you have an active eye infection or untreated ocular conditions.
