ErybiD (erythromycin base)

Indications

Erybid Tablets are prescribed for the treatment of various bacterial infections, including respiratory tract infections, skin infections, and sexually transmitted infections. It is effective against a wide range of gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria.

Ingredients

  • Active Ingredient: Erythromycin
  • Inactive Ingredients: Microcrystalline cellulose, Lactose monohydrate, Croscarmellose sodium, Hypromellose, Magnesium stearate, Titanium dioxide, Polyethylene glycol, Polysorbate 80, and Povidone

Dosage and Administration

  • Take Erybid Tablets exactly as prescribed by your healthcare provider.
  • Take the tablets with or without food, but it is preferable to take them with food to avoid stomach upset.
  • Swallow the tablets whole with a full glass of water.
  • Maintain regular dosing intervals to keep a constant level of medication in your bloodstream.
  • Complete the entire prescribed course, even if you feel better, to prevent the development of antibiotic-resistant bacteria.
  • Do not skip doses or stop taking the medication prematurely without consulting your doctor.
  • Avoid taking antacids within 2 hours before or after taking Erybid Tablets, as they can reduce the absorption of the medication.
  • Avoid consuming grapefruit or grapefruit juice while taking this medication, as it can increase the risk of side effects.
  • Do not crush or chew the tablets, as this can affect the release of the medication.

Mechanism of Action

Erybid Tablets contain erythromycin, a macrolide antibiotic. It works by inhibiting the protein synthesis of bacteria, thereby stopping their growth and multiplication. Erythromycin binds to the 50S ribosomal subunit of the bacterial cell, preventing the translocation of peptides. This action effectively treats and controls bacterial infections in the body.

Contraindications

  • Do not use Erybid Tablets if you are allergic to erythromycin or any of the inactive ingredients.
  • Avoid use if you have a history of liver disease or have experienced jaundice associated with prior erythromycin therapy.
  • Do not use this medication if you are taking any drugs known to cause QT prolongation or severe heart rhythm disorders.
  • Consult your doctor if you have a history of myasthenia gravis, as erythromycin can exacerbate muscle weakness.
  • Avoid using Erybid Tablets if you are currently using ergotamine or dihydroergotamine.
