Indications

Bactrim is indicated for the following conditions:  

  • Treatment of infections caused by designated, susceptible bacteria in adults and pediatric patients two months of age and older. 
  • Pneumocystis jirovecii Pneumonia 
  • Shigellosis 
  • Urinary Tract Infections 

Dosage and Administration

  • Take Bactrim by mouth with a full glass of water (8 ounces / 240 milliliters) as directed by your healthcare provider. 
  • Take it with food or milk in case of an upset stomach. 
  • Drink plenty of fluids while taking Bactrim to lower the unlikely risk of kidney stones forming, unless your healthcare provider advises otherwise. 
  • Take this antibiotic at evenly spaced times for the best effect.

  • Increased mortality with adjunctive leucovorin for Pneumocystis jirovecii pneumonia: Avoid concurrent use.
