Jublia (efinaconazole)

Indications

Jublia is prescribed for the treatment of fungal infections of the toenails caused by dermatophytes.

Dosage and Administration

  • Apply Jublia once daily to the affected toenail(s) using the built-in brush applicator.
  • Ensure the toenail is clean and dry before application.
  • Cover the entire toenail, including the underside of the nail tip and the skin beneath the nail.
  • Allow the solution to dry completely before putting on socks or shoes.
  • Use consistently at the same time each day for the full duration prescribed by your healthcare provider, usually 48 weeks.
  • Do not apply it to open wounds, cuts, or broken skin.
  • Avoid getting the solution in your eyes, mouth, or vagina.
  • Do not use nail polish or other cosmetic nail products on treated nails.
  • Do not skip applications; if you miss a dose, apply it as soon as you remember unless it is close to the time for the next dose.
  • Do not use occlusive dressings unless directed by your doctor.

Mechanism of Action

Jublia is an antifungal medication that works by inhibiting the synthesis of ergosterol, an essential component of fungal cell membranes. This disruption in ergosterol production leads to increased membrane permeability and ultimately causes the death of the fungal cells, effectively treating the fungal infection in the toenails.

  • Keep your feet clean and dry to support the effectiveness of the treatment.

  • Avoid exposing the treated toenail to excessive moisture or prolonged water immersion.
