Description

WHAT IS GLEEVEC USED FOR?

Gleevec (Imatinib) is used to treat types of cancer, including acute lymphoblastic leukemia, chronic myeloid leukemia, gastrointestinal stromal tumors, and myelodysplastic/myeloproliferative diseases. This is achieved by stopping the further growth of cancer cells. Gleevec can also treat immune system disorders, including aggressive systemic mastocytosis and hypereosinophilic syndrome.

Furthermore, new research indicates a new treatment for CML (chronic leukemia). CML Gleevec has transformed it into a manageable chronic disease for people taking it.

HOW TO TAKE GLEEVEC

Before taking Gleevec, make sure to read the instructions on the label and talk with your doctor for further instructions.

DOSAGES

Gleevec should be taken with a meal and a glass of water. It is not advisable to take Gleevec on an empty stomach. In the event that you are not able to swallow the pill whole, you can dissolve it in water or apple juice. Use only 2 ounces of liquid per 100-milligram tablet, or 7 ounces of fluid per 400-milligram tablet stir until dissolved, and drink immediately.

Do not use a pill that has been broken, this medication can be dangerous outside the pill. If it lands on your nose, mouth, skin, or eyes. Make sure to clean the area with soap and water and speak with your doctor about a safe way to dispose of the medication.

You will also have to avoid grapefruits as this can increase the risks of side effects with this Gleevec medication unless your doctor has instructed you to consume it. Do not increase the dosage or prolong the use of this drug above its prescribed limit. It will not affect the medication’s efficiency and will increase the risks of side effects.
