Mechanism of Action

Famvir is an antiviral medication. It works by inhibiting the replication of herpes viruses, including herpes simplex viruses (HSV-1 and HSV-2) and varicella-zoster virus (VZV). Famvir is converted into its active form, penciclovir, which interferes with viral DNA synthesis, thereby stopping the virus from multiplying.

  • You have severe kidney disease: Consult your doctor before taking Famvir if you have severe kidney impairment.
