Cytoxan (cyclophosphamide)

Indications

Cytoxan is indicated for-

  • Malignant Diseases: Cytoxan is effective alone in treating certain cancers, but it is more often used with other cancer-fighting drugs.
  • Nephrotic Syndrome in Children: Cytoxan can be beneficial for children with “minimal change” nephrotic syndrome confirmed by biopsy. It should not be the first treatment option.

Dosage and Administration

  • Take Cytoxan exactly as prescribed by your doctor.
  • Swallow the tablets whole with water.
  • Take the medication at the same time each day to maintain consistent blood levels.
  • Follow your doctor’s advice regarding fluid intake to prevent bladder issues.
  • Ensure regular blood tests are done to monitor your condition and adjust dosages if necessary.
  • Do not crush, chew, or break the tablets.
  • Avoid taking Cytoxan if you miss a dose, wait until the next scheduled time.
  • Do not take more or less than the prescribed dosage.
  • Avoid using the medication if you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant.
  • Do not discontinue the medication without consulting your doctor, even if you feel better.

Mechanism of Action

Cytoxan works by interfering with the growth of cancer cells. It disrupts the DNA of these cells, preventing them from multiplying and spreading. This action helps to slow down or stop the growth of cancer.
