Colcrys (colchicine)

Indications

  • Colcrys tablets are indicated for the treatment and prevention of gout flares in adults.
  • It is also used for the treatment of Familial Mediterranean Fever (FMF) in adults and children aged 4 years and older.

Dosage and Administration

  • Take Colcrys tablets exactly as prescribed by your doctor, typically once or twice daily.
  • Swallow the tablets whole with a full glass of water. The scored tablets can be split if your doctor has instructed a lower dose.
  • Take Colcrys with or without food, but taking it with food can help reduce stomach upset.
  • Follow your doctor’s instructions regarding the duration of use and dosing schedule.
  • Take the missed dose as soon as you remember unless it is almost time for the next dose. In that case, skip the missed dose and resume your regular dosing schedule.
  • Do not exceed the prescribed dose of Colcrys or take it more frequently than directed by your doctor.
  • Avoid consuming grapefruit or grapefruit juice while taking Colcrys, as it can increase the medication’s levels in your blood.

Mechanism of Action
