Jublia for toenail fungus

Jublia is a topical antifungal solution indicated to treat infections of the toenails caused by a fungus known as onychomycosis. The two common fungi that cause this kind of infection are Trichophyton rubrum and Trichophyton mentagrophytes.

It is specifically used for fungal infections only and not for other infections caused by bacteria or viruses.

How does this medication work?

Jublia’s generic name and active ingredient are Efinaconazole which is classified as an antifungal medication. This medication targets the cell walls of fungi because, without them, the fungi will die.

Jublia works by hindering the enzyme called fungal lanosterol 14α-demethylase that is necessary for the production of the essential component of the cell walls of fungi known as ergosterol. If ergosterol production is inhibited, fungi will not be able to multiply or survive.

How to use Jublia?

Before using this medication, read the patient information leaflet thoroughly and carefully and follow the instructions correctly. If there are things you cannot understand, you may ask your pharmacist or doctor.

Do not apply for the medicine without doing proper hygiene to avoid contamination.

  1. First, perform handwashing with soap and water. Also, be sure to clean and dry the affected site before applying Jublia.
  2. This comes in a bottle with a brush applicator. Moisten the brush by holding the bottle upside down and applying a drop on the infected toenail. Apply another drop of Jublia to the end of the toenail.
  3. Spread the medication using the brush applicator around the entire toenail, as well as the cuticle, the skin folds surrounding the toenail, and the undersurface of the toenail.
  4. Let the medicine dry completely.
  5. Wash your hands properly after using this medication to prevent contact of this medication with the other parts of your body. You may take a shower after 10 minutes.

Pedicure, nail polish, and other cosmetic nail products are not allowed while using this medication. Keep using this medication for the complete length of time of treatment to avoid recurrence and resistance to the medication.
