Medication Guide
Priligy (dapoxetine) is indicated for the treatment of premature ejaculation (PE) in adult men aged 18 to 64 years. The Priligy medication above is manufactured by Janssen Pharmaceuticals.
Ingredients: Priligy contains dapoxetine (as hydrochloride) as the active ingredient. The inactive ingredients include lactose monohydrate, microcrystalline cellulose, croscarmellose sodium, colloidal anhydrous silica, magnesium stearate, hypromellose, titanium dioxide, iron oxide black, iron oxide yellow, and triacetin.
Directions: Follow your doctor’s prescription exactly.
- Swallow the tablet whole with a full glass of water. Do not chew it, as it has a bitter taste.
- You can take it with or without food.
- Start with one 30 mg tablet, taken 1 to 3 hours before sexual activity. If needed, your doctor may increase your dose to 60 mg. This depends on how well you respond and whether you experience side effects like dizziness.
- Do not take more than one tablet in 24 hours.
- Dapoxetine is not for daily use. Take it only when needed before sexual activity.
Contraindication: Do not use Priligy if you are allergic to dapoxetine hydrochloride or any of its ingredients.
- Avoid this medicine if you are taking or have taken a monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI) in the last 14 days. After stopping Priligy, wait seven days before taking an MAOI.
- Skip using it if you are taking or have taken thioridazine for schizophrenia in the last 14 days. After stopping Priligy, wait seven days before taking thioridazine.
- Do not take it if you are using serotonin reuptake inhibitors like SSRIs, SNRIs, TCAs, or other depression medications. After stopping Priligy, wait seven days before using these medicines or herbal products.
- Avoid this medicine if you are taking certain antifungal or HIV medications.
- Do not take it if you have a history of mania or severe depression.
- Skip using it if you have heart failure, heart rhythm problems, or moderate to severe liver issues.
- Do not use it if you are prone to fainting due to a sudden drop in blood pressure. Before starting, your doctor should check if your blood pressure remains stable when you stand up.
Side Effects: Common side effects include: Nausea, headache, dizziness, sleeplessness, blurred vision, dry mouth.
Serious side effects include: Ringing or buzzing in the ears, fast or irregular heartbeat, increased blood pressure, excessive tiredness, anxiety, abnormal dreams, sleepiness, nausea and vomiting, erection problems.
Before you take Priligy, tell your healthcare provider if you:
- drink alcohol regularly
- use recreational drugs
- consume grapefruit or grapefruit juice
- have a history of fainting or dizziness
- operate vehicles or machinery as part of your daily routine
- are pregnant or planning to become pregnant
- are breastfeeding or planning to breastfeed
Keep up with your follow-up appointments to monitor your progress. Avoid alcohol while taking Priligy, as it can increase sedation and raise the risk of fainting. Recreational drugs may cause severe reactions when combined with this medication. Do not consume grapefruit juice within 24 hours of taking Priligy. It can raise the medication levels in your blood and increase side effects. If you feel faint or dizzy, avoid driving or using heavy machinery. Use Priligy during pregnancy only if your doctor determines it is necessary. It is unclear whether this medication passes into breast milk. If you are breastfeeding, consult your doctor before use. This list of signs is not complete. In case you experience other signs, contact your doctor immediately.
Drug Interactions:
- Priligy should not be used with MAOIs, SSRIs, SNRIs, or other serotonergic drugs like lithium, St. John’s Wort, and tramadol due to the risk of serotonin syndrome, a potentially life-threatening condition.
- Potent CYP3A4 inhibitors like ketoconazole, ritonavir, and atazanavir can significantly increase dapoxetine levels, leading to adverse effects, while moderate inhibitors like erythromycin and clarithromycin require caution and dose adjustment.
- Using Priligy with PDE5 inhibitors like sildenafil and tadalafil may reduce orthostatic tolerance, increasing the risk of hypotension.
- Priligy should not be combined with ketamine, MDMA, or LSD due to risks of arrhythmia, hyperthermia, and serotonin syndrome.
- Combining Priligy with narcotics or benzodiazepines can enhance drowsiness and dizziness, increasing the risk of falls or accidents.
- Priligy should not be used with thioridazine due to an increased risk of QTc interval prolongation, which can lead to severe heart rhythm issues.
Store Priligy in a cool, dry place below 25°C, away from moisture, heat, and sunlight. Keep the tablets in the pack until it is time to take them. Do not store it in the bathroom, near a sink, in the car, or on windowsills. Heat and dampness may damage the medicine. Keep out of reach of children. For safe disposal of expired or unused medicine, take it to a pharmacy. Do not use after the expiry date.
