Adult acne is a silent attacker
Waiting to break out right before some of the most important parts of your life: the prom, the ﬁrst interview, the wedding. I know exactly what it’s like to have perfect skin for your whole adolescent life, and then be slapped in the face with breakouts randomly at age 18. It’s roughly similar to a truck of misfortune sideswiping you as you try to cross the street into adulthood. I have also met many people who have struggled with acne their entire life, constantly feeling embarrassment and wondering how they can get rid of this inconvenience. Acne is caused by many things, one of the main ones being dirty substances coming into contact with your face. There are many quality medical acne medications that can work; there are also (sometimes) easier solutions for how to get rid of acne.
1. Cleanliness is Next to Attractiveness

Many people may ask if stress causes acne. The answer is a resounding yes! Many experts will attest that our emotional stability (or instability) is directly related to all aspects of our bodily health, and the condition of our skin is no exception. If the level of stress you experience on a daily basis is causing breakouts of acne, you deﬁnitely want to take some time out of your day to ﬁnd some way to relax, whether it be a long shower, meditation, or just listening to some music.

According to researchers at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis, 97% of university wrestlers can reduce their risk of skin infection by using soap-and- water cleansing wipes.
Dr. Anderson, a family physian, came up with a theory that if athletes were to use medicated skin wipes after each match, the number of skin infections could be reduced. Dr Anderson, also a team physician for Gopher wrestling team, studied 151 high school athletes who engaged in two weekend tournaments in January and February (up to 5 matches per day). The athletes were asked to use 75% isopropyl alcohol wipe, a soap-and water- based cleansing body wipe, or nothing at all.
The results concluded that without the skin wipe, 15.7% of all athletes developed a skin infection or a rate of 512.8 to exposure. Of the boys who were asked to use the alcohol wipes, 8.9% developed an infection. For those who used the soap-and-water wipe, 1.8% became infected. Infections are very common during wrestling season. Athletes only shower at the end of the day; therefore pathogens transfer between the matches and remain on their skin for 10 to 12 hours. This can cause problems, especially if over time the rises of matches increase further. Over the past 30 years, the numbers of matches for high school wrestlers have increased by 50% to 60%. The more matches there are, the more likely athletes will develop infections.
Infections seen in wrestlers include: herpes gladiatorum, and Staphylococcus.
When winter shows up, is your skin ready to handle the cold? Low temperatures, low humidity, and strong winds can diminish the skins natural lipid layer. This layer of skin is what keeps moisture locked in to keep the skin from drying out.
Don’t consistently apply moisture to the skin; that will cause it to dry out faster. Locking moisture in is the best action. During the winter, we use our heaters all the time. Dry air from furnaces and other heating sources cause the skin to lose moisture quickly.
There are a few things you can do to keep your skin from drying out. When using water to wash your hands or take a shower, using lukewarm water instead of hot water will reduce dryness. If you cannot resist the hot showers then try to cut down the amount of time you spend in the shower to help your skin stay healthy. Even though it is cold, avoiding drying chemicals and heat from a hot tub will help your skin. After showering or washing your hands, apply moisturizer while the skin is still damp to lock in moisture. The best lotions would be 100% Shea butter or Cetaphil Lotion. When drying the skin, it is best to pat the skin instead of rubbing as to avoid dryness brought on through friction.
Soaps are a big thing to skin. Avoid using soaps that will dry out your skin. Use soaps that contain glycerin or petroleum such as Aveeno body wash.
To prevent the face from drying out, it is best to exfoliate once a week or every other week. Using a salt or a sugar scrub when the skin is dry will give it a smooth feeling that you cannot resist. Applying face lotion will help your skin as well.
The place on your skin that needs the most attention is your lips. Lips do not hold in as much moisture as the rest of our body, making them dry out faster. Something everyone does, is lick their lips. Licking your lips actually causes them to dry out faster. Using a simple lip balm will keep your lips moisturized for winter. To get dead flakes off of your lips, you can use a tooth brush in a circular motion on your lips to remove dead flakes.
Skin and lips need to be taken care of during the winter. Before you go outside, put on some moisturizer and gloves to keep your skin from drying out. Take care of your skin this winter to stop the itchiness and the redness.
